Three original crochet amigurumi dinosaur patterns (Plesiosaurus, Tyrannosaurus Rex, Pteranodon) from the Dinosaur range by June Gilbank.
- Plesiosaurus was a member of the Plesiosaur family. (Plesiosaurs aren't actually true dinosaurs, but aquatic reptiles that lived in the same time period.) Plesiosaurus was about 8 ft long, and had an extremely long neck, a small head, wide body, and four long, paddle-like flippers. It lived in the sea and fed on fish and cephalopods. It lived through the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods.
- Tyrannosaurus rex was one of the largest carnivores, at about 40 ft long. It used its long tail to counterbalance the weight of its big head, it walked on its back legs, and had almost comically tiny arms. It lived in the late Cretaceous period.
- Pteranodon was a type of Pterodactyl, a member of the Pterosaur family. (Pterosaurs aren't actually true dinosaurs, but flying reptiles that lived in the same time period.) Pteranodon had a 20-30 ft wingspan, a long toothless beak, and a characteristic cranial crest at the back of its head. It ate fish and molluscs and lived in the late Cretaceous period.
