How do I become a crochet designer?

I’m probably not the best person to emulate if you want a career as a crochet designer! I’m a bit of a lone wolf when it comes to my design business thanks to my unique combination of skills and experience: I’m a technical writer, web developer and scientist, so my background is probably more technical and less artistic than yours.

I do things my own way, and wouldn’t necessarily recommend my decisions to other designers. Instead, I recommend hanging out in some of the forums on Ravelry (it’s completely free!) – they provide the most valuable resource I know of for knowledge and help in our field. You can post your own questions, but my first advice would be to read lots of old threads – there’s a huge amount of info in there.
