Day 7 | |||
The weather was good again, so we decided to go to Haute Tombette Butterfly Farm. The bus was packed and we had to stand most of the way there. When we arrived, it was very quiet. The gift shop was open, but the admission booth for the butterfly house looked as though it had been shut down for a while. We went in and saw some nice tropical flowers, goldfish and caged budgies, but no butterflies! Dave eventually spotted one on our way out.
We walked along Green Lanes to the La Mare vineyard (seeing a warbler and, ironically, many butterflies on the way), so we could buy some things from their shop. The lady on admissions said only one non-paying person was allowed through to the shop(!) so we abandoned that idea and walked to Devil's Hole. We walked to the hole, and on the way we saw a wild kestrel, so we watched her for a while. We had a ploughmans at the pub at the top and waited for the next bus.
From the bus station, we caught another bus to Corbiere, where I bought a 99 ice cream. The ice cream man warned me to be careful of seagulls, and as I sat there eating my ice cream I felt a whoosh by my face, and suddenly my flake was gone! Pesky seagulls... We walked along to Petit Port, which was completely deserted, and then we walked on to La Pulente to catch a bus back to St Aubin.
We went back for one last meal at the Tenby Bars and then went back to our room to finish the champagne and pack.
