I really enjoyed making this pattern. I made a tiny one by using the smallest size round cone and thin yarn, and a large one using regular yarn and by following the pattern for the largest round pine cone.

They work up very quickly; once you get into the rhythm of doing the sales, you don't even have to follow the pattern. And the way the scales are designed makes them look layered, so they aren't covered by other scales. They look great :D
