1 pair of 15mm clear plastic safety animal eyes (clear irises with black pupils) with plastic locking backs.
These are the most secure eyes for amigurumi (crocheted animals). The shaft behind the eye pokes through to the inside of the head, and is locked in place by the plastic washer.
Clear eyes are very versatile! Ideas for use:
- Paint the flat back of the eye with acrylic paint to get the exact shade you want.
- Feeling artistic? Create customized eyes with paint effects – paint spots, stripes, starbursts etc on the back of the eye first, let it dry, then coat the entire back of the eye with the base colour.
- Don’t like painting? No problem! Just cut a square of felt a little larger than the eye, snip a little cross shape in the middle to poke the shaft of the eye through, then trim the felt so it is the same size as the eye – easy!
Make any colour of eye you want!
Instructions for attaching these eyes:
(Note: add the eye colour before attaching the eyes!)
- Position the eye on the outside of the head (before stuffing and closing the head), and push the shaft of the eye between two of your crocheted stitches.
- Position the other eye, and rearrange until you are happy with the positioning. The washers lock into position, so please double check you are happy before moving on!
- Slide the washer over the shaft of the eye. The shaft has several settings where the washer can 'click' into place. Click it until the front of the eye rests snugly against the outside of the crocheted fabric, and the washer sits snugly against the back.
- If you do have any difficulty locking the washer in position, try pressing against a hard surface like a table. Place your work so the curved side of the eye is facing down onto the table and the shaft is sticking up, then push the washer straight down onto the shaft of the eye.
